Commodity Broking is a very specialized field of Business requiring special knowledge, negotiation skills, much
perseverance and determination and above all, Integrity.
While I do trade in Gold, Diamonds, Oil, Copper, Copper Cathode, Iron Ore and the likes, my specialities in Commodities
are Coal and Chrome.
There are literally thousands of Commodity Brokers in South Africa.
Unfortunately it is true that most do not have a clue how Commodity
Transactions work, the procedures or what to do. Often a person will
have a friend who works at a mine who will offer him the chance to find
a Buyer and he becomes a "broker". Commodity Broking is a very complex
Business with many traps and pitfalls. Most think it is a quick way to
make much money, it while this is perhaps true for a selected few, this
is not normally the truth. There are laterally thousands of "corpses" of
those who have tried and after many years of efforts, much money spent
and many hopes, made absolutely NOTHING.
Coal
A Grade Coal: On the Coal front we offer A Grade Coal on FOB (Free on Board), FOT (Free on Truck) at the mine and FAS (Free along
Ship) basis.
C Grade Coal
is normally sold on a FOT basis. This means that the Coal is Sold by
the Sellers to the Buyers who will collect the Coal from the mine. The
Seller would normally be responsible to load the Coal on Trucks
(Lorries) or on a Railway Car at a siding nearby. This Coal is sold almost exclusively to ESKOM power stations to generate
electricity for South Africa. Ninety Percent of all electricity generated in South Africa comes from Coal, burnt in the
various South African power stations to generate steam in the large boilers. This steam is then used to turn large
turbines which in turn generate Electricity.
South Africa uses about 90 million tons of C Grade Coal to generate
electricity for its own and neighboring State needs.

Chrome
I enjoy the Chrome Market
tremendously. While A Grade FOB transactions are huge in volumes, the
logistics of South Africa makes this kind of trading quite difficult and
it takes much time for transactions to be finalized.
While some Buyers do expect
their Chrome to be delivered to a South African Port
on a FOB basis, this is not the norm (Chrome is normally sold on FOT
basis). Chrome (44% rejection 42%) is at the moment sold on FOB basis at
around $210. On FOT basis the Prices are normally around
R1000-R1250 ($150 - $180) per metric ton. The logistics is normally a
nightmare. Getting it from the Inland to the Coast on the South African,
already deteriorating Roads network is quite expensive. Additional to
the Transport Buyers/Sellers will also require Slots at either Richards
Bay or Durban Harbour through which the ships can be loaded and the
exports can be done. (If you have trucks or know of large Companies that
can help us with Chrome transports, please let me know).
We have large Suppliers who
can provide significant volumes of up to 60 000 mt per month, on 12-36
months contracts.
Buyers are required to Prove their Funds, sign the Agreements and will
then be taken to the Chrome for viewing and testing. Once satisfied, the
payments are done and the Chrome lifted. Priced from R1220 from 44% and
42% rejection!

The LETTER OF INTENT or (LOI)
The LOI should not be older than a week, be Signed by
the Buyer and be in a PDF Format. The LOI should contain the FULL
Details of the Buyer/s, the Contact Numbers, Address and should
preferably on the Buyers Letterhead. The LOI should be addressed direct
to to the Seller, to SANCE (The South African National Commodity
Exchange) or to LISTALL. Confirmation of Price, Commissions, the
Product, loading terms (FOT, FOB or FAS) and the Required specs should
be indicated clearly.
NOTE: The LOI should ideally include the Buyers'
Banking details (same as the Company offering the LOI or ICPO) and
permission for the Seller to do a Banking Probe. The Document MUST BE
SIGNED AND STAMPED.
What is an ICPO or a IRREVOCABLE CORPORATE PURCHASE
ORDER
A ICPO is a Purchase order which may not be cancelled
once offered.
The information to the LOI above refers here as well. We
require accurate, complete documents. When we receive proper documents,
we will offer it to Suppliers. We have received fraudulently copied
documents in the past. Fraud is reported to the South African police
services.

The
South African National Commodity Exchange)
I am the Chairman and Founder of
