EXPOSURE EXPOSURE EXPOSURE - The name of the game is EXPOSURE!!

Your business needs EXPOSURE. You think everyone knows the name of your Business and will type it into Google or another Search engine and find you immediately. Sorry, it does not work like that. While some people do know the name of your business and may even know you personally, there are unfortunately Billions of potential customers out there that have never heard and does not know about your Business.

So, you do offer a service or product which they do need. You need to MARKET and PROMOTE and EXPOSE your business to the Market in General. You need to sell your Business. You need to be in their face. They need to bump into your Business wherever they go.

One of the best and most affordable ways possible is certainly Search Engine Exposure. So you are already on Google and on a few other Search Engines (quite accidentally perhaps). What more can be done?

Many people do not even appear on Google. Unfortunately most people believe that Google will automatically pick up their Website on the Internet. This is NOT true!! Search Engines cannot find your website just because it is on some Internet server somewhere. Search Engines need to be guided to your Website. This happens by way of LINKS placed on other websites to your website. When Search Engine robots (spiders) read your link on someone's website, they will follow the link to your website. Once they find your website, a few things happen.

Search Engines love CONTENT. Content on Websites should relate or be relevant to the Title, Keywords and Site description of the Website. So what are the Site Description, Keywords and Title we refer to? If you Right Click anywhere on this page (not on a link) you will notice an Option "View Source". This option allows you to view the Code used to build any website (normally HTML or HTM), which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language, which is the predominant markup language for web pages.

Within the <Head> and </Head> tags of the CODE you will normally find the following Meta Tags.

The three most important tags which should always be on all websites are the

<Title> Describes the Title of your website, the
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="keywords separated by commas"> and the
< META NAME="description" CONTENT="Type content of site here">

This information is very important to Search Engines. Many SEM (Search Engine Marketers) believe KEYWORDS to be the most important of all. It may be true. Do remember that it is very important to display as many of words used in the keywords, title and site description of your website in the CONTENT of your website.

Another point of interest is that many websites have fancy logos or pictures at the top of their websites containing the name of their Business.
Search Engines cannot read what's written in pictures. They read text! So while you may think your website is very pretty with it's fancy logo at the top, do remember that it means nothing to Search Engines.

The first line or header of the content in your page should preferably be written as a Header (shown in the coding as <H1 up to <H6).

Popularity of your website: While you may have a very nice fancy website, Search engines determine your popularity (which will have a direct bearing on your rankings) by how many links to your website, exist on other peoples websites. We do have ways available which will determine how many links exist to your website. The more links, the better. For this reason people will often contact businesses related to their own, requesting links exchanges. They will then place a link on one of their web pages to your site, expecting you to place a link on your website, linked to their website. Unfortunately you may end up with a link back to your website on some unimportant page somewhere on such a website. (Copyright Louis Kearney)
